5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ vacuum chambers for the new 288-m long ring of the Swiss Light Source SLS at PSI, the largest research institute in 🇨🇭! ⚙️ Our team is working hard, ensuring every detail is perfected. Most of the chambers will consist of several pieces – some straight and wire-eroded under water, some bent. When connected, they will form the vacuum ring. Here the electrons will be racing at nearly the speed of light to generate synchrotron light for research.💫✨ To produce more brilliant light, the magnets 🧲 will be as close as possible to the electron beam. This is why the new vacuum chambers are only 1.8 cm in diameter, have an octagonal cross-section and a wall thickness of only 1 mm. A complex technical challenge for our engineers to overcome!
